About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   July 6, 2010
Victoria Frey (USA)
I've had this bike for a month, and I've used it every day, and I LOVE it. I was looking for something affordable, small, and quiet to use in my apartment on a daily basis, and this was exactly what I wanted. My 9 year old son and I assembled it together - it took some time, but it wasn't too difficult at all. I have it parked right in front of my TV, between the couch and the recliner, and it's so quiet I can ride it while we're watching TV and there's no distraction. The resistance settings are great, you can make it super-easy or super-challenging, and everything in between. I've noticed a definite change in my strength and endurance as well.

A lot of reviewers mention a "clicking" noise, and I experienced that as well for the first week or two, but then it disappeared and I haven't heard it since, and it hasn't affected the use of the bike at all. My only other negative is that the seat, while decent, is still a bit harsh on the bum, but that's not really the manufacturer's fault because I know it'll get more comfortable as I lose weight and put less pressure on it!

1 out of 5 stars Defective product.   June 29, 2010
Marc Maffei (Sonora, CA USA)
First off, while the overall design fits my needs, the quality of workmanship and the packaging is typical of things made cheaply. The first sign of trouble came when I was putting this machine together, the instructions clearly state how to put the item together, with the appropriate labels on the parts... except that some of the labels were missing. Making it a nice Chinese puzzle. The second sign of trouble was that one of the pedals was obviously rough, (the bearings where obviously bad), but the real issue was the main "magnetic resistance wheel" which was rumbling when I started to use it, breaking in the middle of my pedaling. It did that very very suddenly causing me some (minor) injury.
IF this was made with quality workmanship, even at an extra 30 or 40 bucks, it would be worth it. As it stands, avoid it if you don't feel comfortable doing returns, or trying to deal with the manufacturer and their phone maze... which I finally avoided by just returning it to Amazon. Amazon at least does make the ACTUAL return process painless, even if FINDING the return information was not simple.

4 out of 5 stars Good economical bike   June 28, 2010

This is a great little bike. It's definitely a space saver. I love how it folds up. Several times I've been frustrate when I went to the gym and had to wait for a bike. It's very convienent to work out any time in the comfort of my home while I watch t.v. or read a book. If you over 5"10" the bike will be too short. It has adjustable back and seating area. It beats paying monthly dues to the gym.

1 out of 5 stars Great bike, awful pedals   June 16, 2010
Nick
This bike is great in terms of the how much space I had in my apartment and the type of low-impact cardio I wanted. Unfortunately, after LESS THAN one month's use, both pedals are pretty much falling off.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good!   June 11, 2010

Just got this home today. Took about a half hour to put together, instructions were ok but the part where I had to put on the pedals (the very last step) was a little tricky and I had to figure it out on my own. The part that houses the pedals is a little heavy but overall the bike is rather lightweight and manageable. I moved it from one room to the next with no problem especially since the front has little wheels that helps a lot. The seat is really small so if you're over 190lbs it would probably get a little uncomfortable after sitting on it for a period of time, just use a small pillow if that happens. I like the resistance on this bike, it actually works and I can get in a decent workout. I like that the bike isn't upright but slightly laid back, it helps with the abs and makes for a much more intense workout. One small problem I did encounter was that I did not have any screws to attach the meter to the bike but seriously, you could use a rubber band so it was no big deal at all! It folds up easily and doesn't take up much space at all. I love that I can watch television as I'm riding the bike and it's really quiet. With time we'll see if it begins to squeak but for right now it's really good. I'm glad I purchased it especially as a beginner exerciser and plan to use it every day: one hour in the morning and again one hour at night!
